Kindle+ is Kindle Unlimited under a new name, plus audiobooks for US subscribers. The subscription is now called Kindle+, since 22 October 2026. Nothing about how you join has changed: an ebook enters Kindle+ when you enrol it in KDP Select, and it is paid from the same monthly fund by pages read. What is new is listening. Some audiobooks can now be in Kindle+ too, and pages listened to are paid from that same fund.
The reader subscription changed its name; the author programme behind it did not. You still enrol ebooks in KDP Select, still accept its exclusivity, and the term still lasts 90 days, renewing automatically unless you opt out.
Exclusivity covers the same ground as before: no digital distribution of the book anywhere else, including your own website or blog; print is unaffected.
Kindle+ pays a share of the KDP Select Global Fund, based on your share of all pages read or listened to by subscribers that month. Pages are counted in KENP (Kindle Edition Normalized Pages) whether they were read or listened to, and the money arrives in the same KDP payment as your sales.
Two rules matter now that a book can be both read and heard:
The per-page rate floats because the fund is divided by everything read that month. It has been roughly $0.0044–$0.0049 a page, set monthly rather than fixed. That range was measured before listening joined the fund, so treat it as a guide until Amazon posts the first rates that include audio.
Audiobooks reach the US marketplace only, for now. Ebooks are unaffected and stay in Kindle+ in every marketplace where it is sold.
How an audiobook gets in depends on how it was made.
Virtual Voice audiobooks (KDP's AI narration) are enrolled automatically when the matching ebook is in KDP Select, and then exclusive to Audible for the enrolment term. This is the part to check before your next enrolment. If you would rather keep the audiobook selling wide, you have to unpublish it, because it cannot be taken out of KDP Select on its own.
ACX audiobooks join only by your choice, and only those with the ebook live in KDP Select, exclusive Audible distribution, Read & Listen (Whispersync for Voice) on, and a Pay-for-Production deal. In practice that rules out every audiobook narrated on a royalty share, and every ACX audiobook distributed beyond Audible.
For ACX audiobooks, nothing: Kindle+ listening is paid from the fund and reported in KDP, while Audible, ALC and Audible Plus royalties stay separate in ACX. Joining Kindle+ adds a second income stream; it does not replace the first.
For most authors, no. Ebooks already in KDP Select are in Kindle+ automatically, and nothing about the terms you agreed to has changed.
