Why isn't my book selling?

In order of frequency: (1) Discoverability problems — bad metadata, wrong cover, wrong price, wrong platform. (2) Market mismatch — audience too small or genre confusion. (3) Quality issues — cover, description, or first chapter not hooking readers. (4) No marketing foundation — no platform, no ongoing promotion. Most books that don't sell have multiple problems. Fix the most obvious first.

Is Kindle Unlimited dead?

No. But it has changed. More competition, fluctuating page-read rates, algorithm shifts. KU still works well for series authors, prolific writers, and genres with dedicated KU readership (romance, fantasy, mystery). It works poorly for single-book authors or infrequent publishers. Test it for 90 days and measure against alternatives — don't decide based on forum opinions.

Am I too late?

No. But the landscape has changed. Success takes longer and requires more professionalism than it did 5–10 years ago. Better tools now exist. The market is larger. The bar is higher. Authors who treat publishing as a business and commit to long-term development still find meaningful success. You're not late — you're entering with better information than most.

Can I submit something already self-published to agents?

Generally no, unless your book has exceptional sales (typically 10,000+ copies). Most agents want unpublished work. Exceptions: significantly revised versions, books published in very small quantities, or books whose rights have reverted from publishers. Focus: pitch your next unpublished work while using the published book to demonstrate your platform.

Does publishing on Medium ruin my chances?

Publishing articles on Medium does not hurt your traditional publishing prospects. What might complicate things: publishing substantial portions of your book manuscript, or low-quality content that reflects poorly on your professionalism. Use Medium to build expertise and audience — not to publish book content. A strong Medium following can actually strengthen a traditional publishing pitch.
